Horror has suddenly become the rage once again after the success of The Conjuring, and we are seeing how the genre is evolving. The Curse of La Llorona’ is one of the many movies to have come out in the wake of the success of James Wan’s movie, and is part of the highly popular horror franchise. It is also one of the few Hollywood films that explore Mexican folklore, making it more refreshing. While it does not offer a very fresh take on the elements of horror, it is a well-crafted movie and some of the jump-scares will get to you. Either way, we know you will not want to miss out on a juicy horror story like The Curse of La Llorona’, so we will tell you where to watch the movie or re-watch it. But before that, let us walk you through the plot. What is The Curse of La Llorona About? The story of The Curse of La Llorona’ begins in Mexico in 1673. We see two young boys playing with their mother in a field. The boy gives her a necklace and closes his eyes. When he reopens them, his family seems to have disappeared. However, he tracks them to a stream where he sees the mother drowning his brother. Horrified, the boy tries to flee, but the mother catches him and drowns him too. This comes from the folk tale of La Llorona or the Weeping Woman, who is said to have drowned her two children in grief when she was abandoned by her husband. Anyway, our movie takes us forward by 300 years, and we arrive in 1973 Los Angeles, where we see Anna Tate-Garcia Linda Cardellini, a Hispanic caseworker investigating the disappearance of the children of Patricia Alvarez Patricia Velásquez. She finds them behind a locked door, and when she tries to free them, Patricia attacks but is dragged away by the police. The boys too ask to be kept in the room so they are protected, but Anna puts them in a shelter for child services. There, Tomas sleepwalks, with Carlos following him, till they arrive in front of a mirror. They see the woman clad in the white dress La Llorona appear, and she grabs them. Anna is called to investigate these boys’ death, as they have been found drowned in a river. She hears Patricia blame Anna for their deaths. Anyway, she leaves her children in the car and goes to see if she can make sense of what happened. When her son, Chris, goes to investigate on his own, he is attacked by La Llorona, who brands him and scares him. The next day, Samantha, or Sam, the sister, is also branded by the ghost. When Anna interviews Patricia, she finds out that she has an alibi, and Patricia admits to letting loose La Llorona on Anna’s children in hopes that she can have her own children back. Anna encounters this ghost trying to drown Sam in the bathtub. In the process of trying to save her daughter, she too gets branded by this ghost. Deciding to seek some expert help, she goes to Father Perez Tony Amendola who links this case to Annabelle’s and tells Anna about priest Rafael Olvera Raymond Cruz, who might be able to help her. Rafael sets up religious items in the house to protect the family, but La Llorona arrives and begins attacking anyway. She tries to drown Anna and Sam in the swimming pool. Things get complicated when Patricia also shows up, and tells Anna that the plan is to exchange the kids’ lives; but she later relents and lets Anna go to save her kids. In the meanwhile, Chris delays La Llorona by showing her a necklace that Anna took off in the pool. This reminds the ghost of its human family, and it shows its human form for some time. However, Sam accidentally unveils a mirror, which puts La Llorona back in evil spirit mode as she attacks the children. Just when it seems that all hope is lost, Anna stabs her with a cross made from a Fire Tree, that grew beside the stream where La Llorona had drowned her own children. Since these trees were the only witnesses to her crime, her spirit is destroyed, and all is back to normal. As the children rush back to the house, Anna notices what appears to be a puddle of tears. Will La Llorona be back? That remains to be seen, but let us tell you about where to see the movie. Is The Curse of La Llorona On Netflix?
